Recruitment: The Black & White way
What to expect from your experience with Black & White Legal Recruitment
Working with us isn’t a complex journey, but it is a thorough one.
Whether you’re a candidate or a firm, our specialism lies in truly understanding your ethos, values, and objectives to ensure you get everything you need from the process
Working with candidates
After initial contact, we follow a detailed process that covers every stage of your journey into your new role.
1. Discovery and pitch-building
We’ll distil your story into three parts, delving into your past, present, and future – where you came from, what you want now, and where you want to end up – to pinpoint exactly what distinguishes you from other similarly skilled candidates.
2. Clarifying your non negotiables
Our experts will take the time to understand your preferred working patterns, salary expectations, ideal type of work, and progression expectations. This means we can pitch you to firms that align with your personal and professional goals.
5. Offer and negotiation
Once an offer has been made, our experts will manage the back-and-forth on salary negotiations to ensure you’re not short-changed or undervalued.
3. Pitching you to the market
We’ll champion you and pitch you to suitable firms. We do this in two ways: we’ll either liaise with firms that have an open vacancy or proactively approach firms we believe would value you, even without a confirmed role. Our aim is always to secure at least three interested organisations.
6. Post offer, pre start
Before you start your new role, we’ll manage the notice period (if required) to ensure that both parties feel comfortable with the move.
4. Interview stage
We’ll set up an interview. After each interview, we’ll debrief you, gather feedback, relay it to the firm, and arrange next steps.
7. Aftercare
We’ll check in after you’ve started your new role, without being intrusive. Our service continues long after the contract is signed – it’s never just a one-off transaction. We stay accountable from start to finish.
Working with firms and hiring managers
We work best as a trusted, exclusive partner, delivering a consistent message to the market on your behalf, rather than having multiple recruiters pitch your role inconsistently.
There are two ways for firms to work with us. Either we’ll reach out with details of candidates we represent who we believe are the perfect technical and cultural fit for your organisation, or you can contact us to help you find your next hire.
From there, we’ll follow a detailed process and collaborate with you at every step.
1. Discovery call
We’ll take a deep dive into the business, including its structure, culture, competitors, decision-makers, budget, current use of recruiters, and past hiring challenges. We genuinely want to know the good, the bad, and the ugly.
2. Fees agreed
We’ll agree on fees upfront, with clear rebate terms if a candidate leaves shortly after starting.
5. Contacting candidates
We’ll approach your chosen candidates with a specific, credible pitch to let them know your firm has identified them as priority hires..
3. Checking our network first
We’ll start by seeing whether we already represent someone who fits the brief. Since they’re already registered with us, this is often the fastest route to a strong match..
6. Interviews arranged
We’ll help set up interviews and gather and share feedback between the parties
4. Market mapping and shortlisting
If we need to look further, we’ll build a shortlist of qualified candidates working at your competitors. You’ll tell us exactly who you’re comfortable with us approaching, so we’ll reach out only with your sign-off.
8. Post offer, pre start
We’ll manage the candidate’s notice period to protect the placement against counter-offers or poaching.
7. Offer and negotiation
Once an offer has been made, our experts will manage the back-and-forth during salary negotiations.
